3T3-Swiss albino Cells

Description

3T3-Swiss Albino cells were established in 1962 from disaggregated Swiss albino mouse embryos. These cells are a fibroblast cell line that has become contact-inhibited and adhere to plastic surfaces. 3T3-Swiss Albino cells are hypertriploid with a karyotype of 2n=68 and can be readily transformed when exposed to polyoma and SV40 viruses, resulting in reduced sensitivity to contact inhibition. The cells should be cultivated in plastic flasks as they do not grow well on some types of glass surfaces. A saturation density of approximately 5E+04 cells/cm^2 can be reached. The 3T3-Swiss Albino cell line is also positive for keratin by immunoperoxidase staining. It has been found to express lysophosphatidylcholine (lyso-PC), which induces AP-1 activity and c-jun N-terminal kinase activity (JNK1). Prior to using 3T3-Swiss Albino cells, it is essential to consider whether the characteristic of contact inhibition is required for the research. While it is necessary when studying the effects of oncogenes, it is less significant when using the cell line to express recombinant proteins for production and purification
